Classes Taught:
ARTS 14000-Drawing I
Fundamental drawing and studio experiences; exploration of basic drawing ideas and media. Work produced in class must be retained for later portfolio presentation in ART 30001.
Concepts covered in this class: Observation, foundational drawing course focusing on contour, gesture, negative and positive space, two-point perspective, value, and mark-making.
ARTS 14001-Drawing II
This is a studio concentrated course. This course is a continued practice in drawing with emphasis on dimensional representation, pictorial structure, and the breakdown of formal elements. This class deals with drawing and studio experiences, and a deeper exploration of drawing ideas and media.
Concepts covered in this class: studio practice, building your own tools, panoramic explorations, exploration of Asian scroll ink painting, gesture, aerial/atmospheric perspective, 25 self-portraits, 50 paper-wad drawings, 20 sock drawings, 10 marble and pebbles drawings, exploration of different media (ink, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, gouache), exploration of papers and surfaces from figuration to abstraction to non-objective explorations.
GTA Facilities Responsibilities
· Worked 20 hours per week in the studio (5 hrs in-class teaching; 5 hrs. preparation for teaching, grading, and office hours; 10 hrs. bi-weekly meetings with the Drawing coordinator to discuss student work from our classes.
· Maintenance of the drawing studios:
Organization and maintenance of drawing studios including: general cleaning and organizing, getting rid of clutter and light repair of easels, drawing horses, stools and overhead clamp lights, and cleaning of sinks when needed.
· Organization and maintenance of the prop area, including repairing props or repainting white props
· Replenish paper towels and soap dispensers inside the studios
· Break down still life props in drawing as needed each week
· Assist in a comprehensive cleanup of the entire drawing facility at the end of the semester—one 8-hour day
· Assisted Drawing coordinator with other studio maintenance and organization as needed

Professor Drew Beattie, 2D/3D/4D Seminar, Art LA 360.18. The 2D/3D/4D Seminar is an intensive preparatory course for art majors who may be interested in applying for the BFA Program. The course draws from students working in any medium offered by the department’s undergraduate art curriculum. All meetings are critiques of student work made outside of class hours and independent of course assignments. The production of individually directed work is the essential goal.

Professor Gabrielle Evertz, Art CR 336. The primary goal of this course is to develop and experience a visual language based on color interactions. This course consisted of group critiques and discussions, two museum visits, student reports, and presentations that were designed to assist the student in greater comprehension of the visual world of color and expressions.
